Not My Country<\/p>\n

\n

I know I wrote about this subject last week.\u00a0\u00a0I know that this was President Trump\u2019s number one priority:\u00a0\u00a0his first speech as he glided down the golden escalator, about stopping the murderers and rapists (and maybe some good people) at the border.\u00a0\u00a0I know that we are getting exactly what he promised.\u00a0\u00a0But my country is not Nazi Germany.<\/p>\n

\n

I also know that the \u201cfamily centered\u201d support of the Trump Administration simply doesn\u2019t apply to brown people. Chief of Staff John Kelly made it clear in his\u00a0statement to NPR\u00a0<\/a>that, while they aren\u2019t bad people, they can\u2019t \u201cassimilate\u201d into the United States, \u201c\u2026they\u2019re overwhelmingly rural.\u201d\u00a0Hey, General, they\u2019re overwhelmingly Hispanic too.<\/p>\n

\n

And Attorney General Jeff Sessions believes he has the plan:\u00a0\u00a0let potential immigrants from Central America, legal or illegal, know that their families will be separated and their children sent away if they come to the United States.\u00a0\u00a0That way \u2013 they won\u2019t come.\u00a0\u00a0Put them in jail when they get here, and put their kids in a \u201ckiddie jail\u201d too.\u00a0\u00a0And if we run out of room for all of the kids \u2013 well our pardoned buddy Sheriff Joe Arpaio has the answer:\u00a0\u00a0put them in tents on a military base<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s a great place to herd a bunch of unsupervised kids.<\/p>\n

\n

I know my friends from \u201cthe other side\u201d will tell me that it\u2019s not the US Government\u2019s fault.\u00a0\u00a0The adults that brought those kids risked them from the moment they left their homes.\u00a0\u00a0They risked kidnapping, rape, human trafficking, exposure to the elements, and starvation.\u00a0\u00a0And that was just the journey.\u00a0\u00a0So they \u201cget what they deserve\u201d when they reach the border.<\/p>\n

\n

To quote the kids from Parkland, I call BS.\u00a0\u00a0America is better than this.\u00a0\u00a0These are the kind of people America wants, folks who care so much about their families and their lives, that they are willing to risk it all for a better place.\u00a0The vast majority of them are not \u2013 \u201cOH MY GOD \u2013 MS-13!!!.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0They aren\u2019t even the young drug runners from Mexico.\u00a0\u00a0They are, literally, \u201c the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

This is\u00a0\u00a0what America was made of.\u00a0\u00a0And it\u2019s not just what happens to the immigrants, or the kids.\u00a0It\u2019s about what happens to the Americans who are put in the position of doing these deeds.\u00a0\u00a0Doesn\u2019t anybody recognize the words, \u201cyou\u2019re just going to take a bath.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Will we start playing symphonies as they go next?\u00a0\u00a0Those AMERICANS who are forced to separate the screaming kids from their screaming parents:\u00a0\u00a0what are we doing to them?<\/p>\n

\n

And for those who say President Obama was doing this before \u2013 not so much.\u00a0\u00a0There was a whole lot of underage immigrants coming to the border, and the Obama Administration was faced with dealing with all of those teenaged kids.\u00a0\u00a0But they were alone, not with their parents.\u00a0\u00a0Americans had to take charge and control of them.<\/p>\n

\n

Stop this.\u00a0\u00a0Stop doing this in OUR name.\u00a0\u00a0I know the Trump Administration has promised to stop illegal immigration, and while we can have the long argument about what the policy should look like:\u00a0\u00a0STOP THIS NOW.\u00a0\u00a0We are America \u2013 we do not abuse the weak and helpless, even if it gets a few more votes \u201cfrom the base.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0STOP THIS \u2013 in the name of whatever it is you believe in that makes you human, STOP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
