Get the Libs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Part of the price of living in our current political era is the constant drip, drip, drip of adrenaline.  There\u2019s always something, some issue, some act, some comment, that immediately raises concerns, anxieties, and the good old \u201cfight – flight\u201d reflex.  (Not to be confused with the Trump cheer from Butler, Pennsylvania, \u201cFight, Fight, Fight\u201d which he echoed in his Mt. Rushmore speech on the Fourth of July weekend<\/em>).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best part is that a lot of those \u201cissues\u201d aren\u2019t real.\u00a0\u00a0Unfortunately that doesn\u2019t make them any less stress producing.\u00a0\u00a0Often, from the Reflecting Pool to the \u201cYMCA\u201d song, it\u2019s simply a MAGA tactic to \u201cget the libs\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0But one concern is, that for a certain segment of the US population, these issues are real problems that us \u201cLibs\u201d just don\u2019t get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the Flag<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s take \u201cBirth Tourism\u201d for a second.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cBirth Tourism\u201d is the idea that women come to the United States for the sole purpose of having a child here.\u00a0\u00a0Under the 14th<\/sup>\u00a0Amendment to the United States Constitution, \u201cAll persons born <\/span>or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0So if a child is born in US territory, \u201cunder the flag of the United States\u201d, they have a claim to US citizenship. (That\u2019s\u00a0Black Letter Law<\/strong>). The US Supreme Court confirmed this in last week’s decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That claim does not include the parents.  So if Mom returns to wherever home is, the child goes with her.  But, once the child reaches adulthood, they can claim US citizenship by presenting their US birth certificate.  They are, to quote Springsteen, \u201cBorn in the USA\u201d.  And they\u2019re right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The leading research body in the field of immigration, the non-partisan Migration Policy Institute<\/a>, estimates there are 26,000 children born a year in the United States as specific result of \u201cbirth tourism\u201d.   That sounds like a lot, until seen as a percentage of total births in the country.  It\u2019s eight tenths of one percent.  So there\u2019s not going to be, eighteen years from now, a mass of \u201cbirth tourist citizens\u201d overwhelming us at the polls, or demanding benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President suggests we should ban all pregnant women from entering the country.\u00a0\u00a0Is ICE going to do pregnancy tests at the airport or charge them with fraudulent entry (two for one)?\u00a0Attorney General Todd Blanche wants to focus Federal law enforcement agencies on this \u201ccrime\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shiny Balls <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

(one of my first essays, back in 2017, was about Trump\u2019s Shiny Balls<\/a>).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why are they doing this?\u00a0\u00a0Because it distracts from the serious issues here in America.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s the \u201cshiny ball\u201d that takes attention from the very real concerns about inflation, the denial of civil rights to migrants, and the almost enumerable acts of corruption in the Trump Administration.\u00a0\u00a0But most of all, it adds to their efforts to control the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They claim that elections are being stolen by \u201cillegals\u201d, who, without citizenship, vote. The \u201cbirthright citizenship\u201d arguments lend a certain patina of \u201ctruth\u201d to this overall theme of the MAGA movement.  Even worse, they claim that Democrats are encouraging illegal immigration, to make them citizens, in order to win their votes.  So those 0.8% of \u201cbabies\u201d are part of the great \u201cscheme\u201d to anchor Democratic control of the American government, forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voting \u201canchor babies\u201d becomes a key example of the need for the \u201cSAVE ACT\u201d to restrict voting.\u00a0\u00a0Trump says the real reason he needs the Act out loud: \u201cPass the SAVE ACT and we (MAGA) will win elections for one hundred years\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stolen Election<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cstolen election\u201d is a foundational principle of the MAGA movement.  But the real \u201ctrick\u201d, is to restrict access to the ballot.  It doesn\u2019t matter if a lot of Republicans are denied the right to vote under the SAVE ACT, as long as a lot more \u201cDemocrat\u201d voters are included.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is just the beginning of an existential fight, as MAGA sees it.\u00a0\u00a0Because there is one incontrovertible fact.\u00a0 The United States of America will no longer be a white majority country in two decades, according to the US Census (Brookings<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0And since MAGA has always had a stand against people of color, their nightmare of losing control is more than likely to come true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So look away from the \u201cshiny ball\u201d of the black letter law of the 14th<\/sup>\u00a0Amendment for a minute, because there\u2019s a \u201creal\u201d attack on voting going on.\u00a0\u00a0The White House National Intelligence apparatus and the FBI are supposed to be worried about terrorism.\u00a0\u00a0Instead they are turned onto the 2020 election results from Georgia.\u00a0\u00a0Then Director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard led the \u201craid\u201d on the Fulton County Board of Elections.\u00a0\u00a0Current acting Director, Bill Pulte, has no experience in the intelligence field.\u00a0\u00a0But he does have bona fides as a full scale election denier.\u00a0\u00a0And the FBI committed its massive resources into investigating the social media of election workers in Atlanta. So expect something soon about how \u201cTrump actually won in 2020\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who cares?\u00a0\u00a0Trump does. And it’s not just so he can make snide comments about how this should be his third term as President, instead of second. Trump needs the false premise to give him \u201cprobable cause\u201d. He’ll try to send Federal officials into the swing states to take \u201ccontrol\u201d of the election in 2026.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not really about 2020, it\u2019s about \u201csecuring\u201d the current elections.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s another way to say Trump will\u00a0\u00a0rig the outcome: a real stolen election.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that\u2019s a massive risk to our Republic.\u00a0\u00a0It ought to turn your adrenaline on like a firehose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
