I guess the caption on the photo of Trump shaking hands with Mayor Mamdani is an \u201calternate fact\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0What today\u2019s headline (or, at least Saturday\u2019s headline) should say is, \u201cPRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES SHAKES HANDS WITH \u2018GODLESS COMMUNIST\u2019 IN THE OVAL OFFICE!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Democratic Primaries in New York City,\u00a0\u00a0multiple Democratic Socialists defeated more \u201cmainstream\u201d Democrats.\u00a0\u00a0They had the support of Mayor Mamdani and are the same kind of Democratic Socialists as Congressman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and, most of all Senator Bernie Sanders.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump preached to the choir at the Faith and Freedom Annual Coalition Dinner Friday, held at the Hilton Ballroom in downtown Washington.\u00a0\u00a0We all know the scene.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s the same place where a potential assassin broke through the outer security rings at the White House Press Corps dinner, causing evacuation and cutting Trump\u2019s remarks.\u00a0\u00a0Bet the Secret Service was better prepared this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith and Freedom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

But there was no stopping Trump at the Faith and Freedom Dinner.\u00a0\u00a0According to the President, the radical left;\u00a0\u201c\u2026want to resume the transgender mutilation of children, they want to restart the war on Christians and churches, and as you saw with the communists elected in New York recently \u2026 they want to completely destroy the traditional American way of life\u201d(<\/em>Guardian<\/em><\/a>)<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the old \u201cVegematic\u201d commercial goes \u2013 \u201cbut there\u2019s more\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump said of the Democratic Party; \u201cThey\u2019re not smart enough or tough enough to fight the plague that is happening right before your very eyes \u2026 They are becoming a Communist party \u2013 not social <\/em>Democrats. They are core communists.\u201d <\/em> And Trump knows his Faith and Freedom audience.  The Democratic Socialists aren\u2019t just a threat to America, they are direct threat to \u2013 Christians!! \u201cAll communists are godless. They do not believe in God \u2026 These ruthless communists attack all religions, but in particular Christianity. They always do. They\u2019re after Christianity more than any other religion\u201d (<\/em>Guardian<\/em><\/a>)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whew \u2013 and I thought the Democratic Socialists just wanted universal healthcare,\u00a0\u00a0paid for by taxing extreme wealth.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maps in Red<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When I was a kid, they had these huge roll-up maps in our social studies classes.\u00a0\u00a0There was a colorful one of the United States. (It was geographically inaccurate; Alaska looked about the size of Texas.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s actually two and a half times the size.\u00a0\u00a0But, back then, Alaska had only been a state for a couple of years).\u00a0\u00a0And then there was the world map, with huge swaths of RED:\u00a0\u00a0the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, China, North Korea, Cuba, and Vietnam.\u00a0\u00a0RED Communism, spreading like blood from an evil wound coming right from Moscow to control the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That map made it easy to teach American kids \u201ctheir job\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0The United States had to contain Communism, stop the bleeding.\u00a0\u00a0And we had alliance systems surrounding the RED all over the world.\u00a0\u00a0The strategy was called \u201ccontainment\u201d, and was used to justify the Vietnam War.\u00a0\u00a0Better to fight (Godless) Communism in Vietnam, rather than the streets of Des Moines or Columbus.\u00a0\u00a0The fatal flaw was that Communism in the Soviet Union wasn\u2019t the same as Communism in China or in Vietnam.\u00a0\u00a0They were still Russians, Chinese, and Vietnamese, with nationalists loyalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Socialists<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Socialists aren\u2019t Communists, and have never been Communists.\u00a0\u00a0And, Democratic Socialists aren\u2019t even the committed socialists that many European countries have, or even part of the Socialist Party of the United States.\u00a0\u00a0But, just like that map with the blood smear in the middle, it\u2019s easy to \u201cpaint\u201d them all the same.\u00a0\u00a0(The US Socialist Party has a dismal record. I\u2019m not usually a\u00a0Wikipedia\u00a0<\/em>quoter, but look at their page on the\u00a0Socialists<\/a>. It shows their losing election record since 1976).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The people of Vermont re-elect Bernie Sanders like clockwork.\u00a0\u00a0Vermont isn\u2019t even considered a \u201cradical state\u201d, like California or Massachusetts.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, the Governor of the state, elected statewide just like Sanders, is a Republican.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0So how can the folks in the Green Mountains elect a \u201cGodless Communist\u201d, keeping him in the Senate for nearing twenty years?\u00a0\u00a0Maybe that tells you everything you need to know about Democratic Socialists.\u00a0\u00a0They are Democrats, Americans, who want to see the \u201cwealth gap\u201d start to narrow just a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have or Not<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

And maybe the Democratic Socialists have a good point.\u00a0\u00a0Most Americans would say that living in our country is getting harder.\u00a0\u00a0Costs are going up, money is getting tighter, and adults can no longer assume that their children will have a better economic life than themselves.\u00a0\u00a0Yet, from a purely \u201ccapitalist\u201d standpoint, America is exactly where Trump says it is, in a \u201cGolden Age\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0The stock market seems to have no connection to everyday Americans, and is setting records daily.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States is the home to 989 billionaires (Forbes<\/a>), and the term \u201cmillionaire\u201d is now required in many places for hope to buy a home or to have a retirement.\u00a0\u00a0The economic divisions of America have never been so apparent.\u00a0\u00a0The top one percent of Americans hold over thirty percent of American wealth.\u00a0\u00a0Our country has never been so divided between the \u201chaves\u201d and the \u201chave nots\u201d (Inequality.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m not a Democratic \u201cSocialist\u201d, but I get exactly where they are coming from.\u00a0\u00a0And I also get why they were successful in New York city elections. Some of the choices: a candidate committed to helping \u201cthe working person\u201d, against an heir to the Levi-Strauss fortune (Dan Goldman) or the Kennedy family (Jack Schlossberg).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0All Democrats should take note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a different division in the United States besides Democrats versus Republican.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s the division over having wealth or not having wealth, worrying about the stock market, or hoping the paycheck covers the bills.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And that\u2019s a powerful motivation driving voters to the polls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
