{"id":8377,"date":"2026-01-25T11:18:48","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T16:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/?p=8377"},"modified":"2026-01-25T11:18:49","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T16:18:49","slug":"execution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/index.php\/2026\/01\/25\/execution\/","title":{"rendered":"Execution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\"><em>I have never \u201cpublished\u201d two essays on the same day \u2013 but here goes.\u00a0\u00a0The \u201cSunday Story\u201d was ready to go, but the events of yesterday demand a response.\u00a0\u00a0Here it is.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concealed Carry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Saturday,\u00a0\u00a0the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) set a new standard for Americans.\u00a0\u00a0If you carry a concealed weapon, you are eligible for an \u201cinstant\u201d death penalty.\u00a0\u00a0You don\u2019t have to pull the gun out, you don\u2019t have to shoot, you don\u2019t even have to threaten.\u00a0\u00a0Just the mere fact that you are \u201ccarrying\u201d means that four or five DHS agents can shoot you, on the ground, in the back, on the street, even if your gun is \u201cwhisked away\u201d by one of their compatriots, prior to execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">I\u2019m not a gun guy.\u00a0\u00a0All of my \u201cguns\u201d are closed barreled track starting pistols.\u00a0\u00a0But I do understand there\u2019s an inherent danger in carrying those guns.\u00a0\u00a0They \u201clook\u201d real, and, in the right set of circumstances, they might elicit a \u201creal\u201d response by law enforcement.\u00a0\u00a0So I\u2019m careful how I store, transport, and carry them; especially because I often do so on public school grounds.\u00a0\u00a0But here\u2019s a point:\u00a0\u00a0even if there were real, in the state of Ohio, I can carry a concealed weapon \u201cat will\u201d (not on school grounds).\u00a0\u00a0We are a \u201cConstitutional Carry State\u201d, defining the Second Amendment to the Constitution as allowing all eligible citizens to have a concealed weapon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Minnesota is not a \u201cConstitutional Carry\u201d state.\u00a0\u00a0They require concealed carry permits to have a concealed weapon.\u00a0\u00a0And, Alex Pretti, a 37 year-old ICU nurse at Minnesota\u2019s Veteran\u2019s Hospital, had a permit to carry a weapon.\u00a0\u00a0And he was executed by a squad of Homeland Security \u201cagents\u201d on Saturday morning.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brandishing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Why was he carrying a concealed weapon at the moment he stopped to help a woman shoved down in the snow by ICE?\u00a0\u00a0Because it\u2019s his right to do so.\u00a0\u00a0Because, whether I like it or not, America is \u201cawash\u201d in guns.\u00a0\u00a0Alex Pretti isn\u2019t the only \u201cnon-right-winger\u201d I know who \u201cpacks\u201d a gun. It\u2019s just as much his right to do so, as it is the \u201cright-wingers\u201d who proclaim their fealty to the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Secretary Noem had her \u201ccover story\u201d ready to go.\u00a0\u00a0Pretti was \u201cbrandishing a weapon\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0As I learned in my service on the Licking County Grand Jury, \u201cbrandishing\u201d has a very specific legal definition.\u00a0\u00a0If a person reveals a weapon for the purpose of threat, then it\u2019s \u201cbrandished\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0It might simply be the lift of a T-shirt, revealing the handle of the gun in the waistband.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">But what if the Federal \u201cagents\u201d are the ones who lift the shirt?\u00a0\u00a0And what if the they lift the shirt, after they level Mr. Pretti on the ground, with six agents holding him down?\u00a0\u00a0And what if, a Federal \u201cagent\u201d takes the gun, and steps away back into the street?\u00a0\u00a0Is Alex Pretti \u201cbrandishing\u201d a weapon that is no longer on his person?\u00a0\u00a0Watch the video, the shots are fired after the gun is removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">That\u2019s not any kind of legal law enforcement activity.&nbsp;&nbsp;That\u2019s an execution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rear-Guard Action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">ICE knows they\u2019re in trouble.\u00a0\u00a0They have done everything they can to control the narrative, and to block outside investigation.\u00a0\u00a0Even the FBI isn\u2019t allowed to be involved in this crime.\u00a0\u00a0DHS is doing their own, internally controlled investigation.\u00a0\u00a0Want to bet what the conclusions will be?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Minneapolis police department is trying to push their way in.\u00a0\u00a0They recognize that there can be no justice without a trusted, impartial agency looking into this atrocity.\u00a0\u00a0Ultimately it will be up to the Courts.\u00a0\u00a0A Minnesota Federal Court already has demanded that all evidence be \u201cpreserved\u201d by DHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Administration is fighting a \u201cvaliant\u201d rear-guard action, trying to invert the blame.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s the \u201cviolent protestors\u201d, it\u2019s that the Minneapolis Police aren\u2019t helping, it\u2019s the Mayor and the Governor encouraging protest, it\u2019s that ICE has a \u201chard job\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0There\u2019s no talk about their failure in this \u201cmission\u201d to rid America of migrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lying Eyes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It all comes back to believing your \u201clying eyes\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0We can all see the altercation.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s very clear what went on.\u00a0\u00a0We can even see the agent in the gray coat (no uniforms for ICE) grab the gun from Pretti\u2019s back, and step back from the \u201cscrum\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s when ICE opened fire.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ve heard all sorts of terms about ICE:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cbully-boys\u201d, Gestapo, America\u2019s Brownshirts.\u00a0\u00a0That is what they look like.\u00a0\u00a0But it also looks like a bunch of untrained people given weapons, and a mandate to do \u201cwhatever it takes\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">What needs to happen?\u00a0\u00a0ICE needs to withdraw.\u00a0\u00a0They need to regroup.\u00a0\u00a0Ultimately, in some future administration with a more reasoned view of the world, ICE needs to be dissolved and replaced.\u00a0\u00a0But assuredly Trump needs to get back to what he promised in the campaign:\u00a0\u00a0that they would remove the worst criminals.\u00a0\u00a0That does not include five year-old boys, or old men in the underwear (a US Citizen), or seventeen year-olds on their way to school.\u00a0\u00a0The sooner Trump realizes that the current ICE actions are simply stiffening opposition, the sooner things will \u201cget better\u201d for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Unless of course, the goal is to create this chaos, in order to claim insurrection, enabling Trump to disrupt local American governments with Federal intervention.\u00a0\u00a0Isn\u2019t that what all of the \u201cSecond Amendment\u201d folks were afraid of; the \u201cBlack Helicopters\u201d swooping  in to take over?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">They might be coming now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have never \u201cpublished\u201d two essays on the same day \u2013 but here goes.\u00a0\u00a0The \u201cSunday Story\u201d was ready to go, but the events of yesterday demand a response.\u00a0\u00a0Here it is.
