{"id":8059,"date":"2025-08-12T09:08:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T13:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/?p=8059"},"modified":"2025-08-12T09:08:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T13:08:08","slug":"feelings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/index.php\/2025\/08\/12\/feelings\/","title":{"rendered":"Feelings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(Remember that old song <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CyBcHUe4WeQ\">Feelings<\/a>, by Morris Albert?)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disruption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I guess, to some, it \u201cfelt\u201d like a good idea.\u00a0\u00a0Many Americans, fueled by the \u201cFake\/Faux\/Fox News\u201d media onslaught, \u201cfelt\u201d like billions of dollars were being \u201cwasted\u201d, or even worse, stolen.\u00a0\u00a0That \u201cfeeling\u201d helped get Donald Trump elected President, for a second time, despite thirty-four felony convictions.\u00a0\u00a0Enough Americans felt, I guess, that it was time to put that \u201cfox\u201d in charge of the entire \u201cchicken coop\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elon Musk and his DOGE boys came in, and completely disrupted the government.\u00a0\u00a0Finances were ripped from hundreds of programs that were mandated by Congress.\u00a0\u00a0There were real-world consequences, programs that were life-saving, cut cold.\u00a0\u00a0Real people died.\u00a0\u00a0Almost every agency, from the Internal Revenue Service to the Veterans\u2019 Administration to the National Park Service, was disrupted. And the rest of Americans, even the ones who didn\u2019t share the \u201cfeelings\u201d of waste and fraud, shared in that disruption, like it or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The end result \u201cfelt\u201d kind of sad.\u00a0\u00a0The DOGE boys (including their leader, Musk, and his lieutenant, \u201cBig Balls\u201d) spent a lot of money, ate a lot of pizza, and crunched an enormous amount of data.\u00a0\u00a0But, in real terms (not feelings) they didn\u2019t save much. DOGE claims to have saved $160 Billion, a big number.\u00a0\u00a0But analysis shows they spent $135 Billion to do it (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/doge-cuts-cost-135-billion-analysis-elon-musk-department-of-government-efficiency\/\">CBS<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0$25 Billion is a \u201cbig number\u201d too, but not so \u201cbig\u201d in the scope of a\u00a0\u00a0$5.35 Trillion annual budget.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Big Balls\u2019 Nose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of \u201cBig Balls\u201d; he intervened in a street crime in Washington, DC, and got beat up pretty badly.\u00a0\u00a0The President said he was \u201cnear death\u201d; but unless you can die from a broken nose Trump might have exaggerated a bit.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cBig Balls\u201d may be big in the computer world, but in real world DC crime,\u00a0\u00a0as the saying goes, he got his a$$ kicked.\u00a0\u00a0And somehow, it \u201cfeels\u201d like that\u2019s generated an entire crisis in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Trump was looking for something to do in August, besides talking about the EPSTEIN FILES.\u00a0\u00a0He put massive tariffs on China (but he really didn\u2019t), and he arranged to meet Putin in Alaska, in quest of \u201chis\u201d Nobel Peace Prize.\u00a0\u00a0Hopefully, he doesn\u2019t give away Ukraine, or Alaska, as part of the deal.\u00a0\u00a0But when all of those things didn\u2019t manage to change the subject from Trump\u2019s good, deceased, child molesting friend; he decided to bring in the Federal Government to rescue \u201cBig Balls\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Retribution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am your retribution\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s what Trump told the world would happen if he got elected.\u00a0\u00a0And here he is, getting payback for \u201cBig Balls\u2019\u201d broken nose.\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s nationalized the police of Washington, DC, taking control from the duly elected local authorities.\u00a0\u00a0Trump claimed that Washington was worse than varying war zones throughout the world, and \u201conly he\u201d could fix what the \u201cDemocrat\u201d local government allowed to happen.\u00a0\u00a0Just like\u00a0\u00a0DOGE \u201cfixed\u201d the Federal Government, now Trump would \u201cfix\u201d Washington, DC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So let\u2019s get a couple of things straight, feelings aside.\u00a0\u00a0Washington DC isn\u2019t Baghdad, or some other war-torn foreign capital.\u00a0\u00a0It isn\u2019t even the \u201cmurder capital\u201d of the United States.\u00a0\u00a0That \u201chonor\u201d goes to Memphis, Tennessee, followed by St Louis and Baltimore.\u00a0\u00a0DC is fourth on the list, which surprisingly doesn\u2019t include Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, or any city in Ohio.\u00a0\u00a0I guess \u201cfeelings\u201d can be mistaken (<a href=\"https:\/\/usafacts.org\/articles\/which-cities-have-the-highest-murder-rates\/\">USA Facts<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And while Washington\u2019s homicide rate rose 15% in the Covid and post-Covid era, it actually fell 12% in the past year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0So while that doesn\u2019t help \u201cBig Balls\u2019\u201d nose, it is factual, versus anecdotal, evidence.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not about feelings, unless we\u2019re talking about \u201cfeeling\u201d like talking about something other than the EPSTEIN FILES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Real World<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there are real-world consequences.\u00a0\u00a0Now the Federal Government is in-charge of the DC Metro Police, replacing the Mayor and the elected City Council.\u00a0\u00a0DC is a complicated jurisdictional area.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s a Federal District, and many segments of the city are regulated by Federal Police anyway, including the Capitol area (the Capitol Police), the National Mall (US Park Police), the White House (US Secret Service), and, of course, ICE (they\u2019re everywhere, everywhere)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Metro Police is still in action, but now, trained FBI agents are making arrests for loitering, and the Park Police are patrolling regular neighborhoods, as well as the \u201cregular\u201d cops.\u00a0\u00a0Many will \u201cfeel\u201d better.\u00a0\u00a0But those \u201cfeelings\u201d aren\u2019t likely to be those of the regular folks who live in DC.  More importantly, it\u2019s another  DOGE-type solution to the problem, one that disenfranchises  hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians.\u00a0\u00a0The Federal forces can go \u201ctear up\u201d in DC for a while, joined by the National Guard and perhaps even the regular military.\u00a0\u00a0But, probably sooner rather than later, Washington will return to \u201cregular order\u201d, and the President\u2019s band-aid solution will be over.\u00a0\u00a0Nothing changes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Big Balls may feel vindicated.\u00a0\u00a0And Trump will have his \u201cretribution\u201d on the town that stood up to him on January 6<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0\u00a0But the rest of us have to get over feelings, and look at the facts.\u00a0\u00a0This is no solution to the real problems of Washington, DC.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s just another distraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s too bad, for the real people who live in Washington.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Remember that old song Feelings, by Morris Albert?)
