{"id":7995,"date":"2025-07-17T09:26:26","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/?p=7995"},"modified":"2025-07-17T09:26:27","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:26:27","slug":"night-moves-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/index.php\/2025\/07\/17\/night-moves-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Night Moves"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><em>I awoke last night to the sound of thunder<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><em>How far off, I sat and wondered<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><em>Started humming a song from 1962<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><em>Ain\u2019t it funny how the night moves&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; Bob Seger, Night Moves<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dogs (of course)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">One of the \u201cjoys\u201d of dog ownership is companionship.\u00a0\u00a0Our Yellow Lab Atticus is the extreme example of that.\u00a0\u00a0He isn\u2019t happy unless he\u2019s close by.\u00a0\u00a0Like many rescue dogs he has demons, and\u00a0\u00a0Atticus\u2019s is separation anxiety.\u00a0\u00a0If you\u2019re gone, it\u2019s OK, but if you\u2019re here and out of sight, that\u2019s a different story.\u00a0\u00a0He need to see you, to be around you, to be behind you when you turn around, and to make sure he\u2019s \u201cchecked in\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">So, not surprisingly, Atticus sleeps with us.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s fine.\u00a0\u00a0On cold nights he\u2019s what my Mother would call a \u201cbig hot water bottle\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0On warmer nights he takes up his portion of the end of the bed.\u00a0\u00a0But he usually sleeps through the night, and so do we.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">So it was unusual that he was up last night, wandering the bedroom about 1:30.\u00a0\u00a0I am attuned to the sound of dog paws on hardwood floors. So I was awake when he went into my office, and quietly, for him, threw-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Kids and dogs:\u00a0\u00a0when they throw-up in the middle of the night there\u2019s \u201cthings\u201d to take care of.\u00a0\u00a0And by the time I was done with all of that, I was wide awake.\u00a0\u00a0So I did some middle-of-the-night reading.\u00a0\u00a0And I came across an article\/opinion on the Fox News app that completely illustrates the central problem America faces today.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hit Piece<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In the journalism business it\u2019s called a \u201chit piece\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0There was no real title, but the sub-title is:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"applewebdata:\/\/E538BAA5-5EBC-4FD2-9DF8-6E5864094003\/Pearl%20Project%20investigation%20exposes%20198%20Democratic%20organizations%20orchestrating%20Saturday's%20#NoKings%20demonstrations\">Pearl Project investigation exposes 198 Democratic organizations orchestrating Saturday&#8217;s #NoKings demonstrations<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0The opinion article\u00a0\u00a0states that someone is trying to \u201cfool\u201d the American public, by calling the movement against the Trump Administration, a \u201cgrass roots\u201d movement.\u00a0\u00a0The author, Asra Nomani, is the Founder of the \u201cPearl Project\u201d. That&#8217;s her journalism initiative named after the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by Al Qaeda in Pakistan while investigating the \u201cshoe bomber\u201d in 2002.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Nomani links three pivotal progressive leaders to the \u201cNO KINGS DAY\u201d marches that brought millions into the streets to protest Trump:\u00a0\u00a0Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, Al Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network, and Leah Greenberg, founder of Indivisible (the major organizing group behind NO KINGS).\u00a0\u00a0She claims that while all three were triumphing the clear success of NO KINGS DAY, they failed to note the underlying political involvement of\u2026wait for it\u2026 the Democratic Party!!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tax Exempt<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Here&#8217;s what she said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201c<em>According to new research by the Pearl Project, the #NoKings protest is being organized by an estimated 198 groups, all of which are aligned with the Democratic Party and many of which claim tax-exempt, &#8220;nonpartisan&#8221; nonprofit status. Collectively, these groups take in $2.1 billion in annual revenues\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">She goes on to enumerate some of those organizations, dividing them by their tax status. \u00a0And Nomani says, over and over again, that many of them are listed as 501c3, the IRS status that allows non-profit organizations to avoid paying taxes.\u00a0\u00a0They are designated \u201ccharitable\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0As part of that status,\u00a0\u00a0they:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&nbsp;\u201c<em>\u2026<\/em><em>are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/charities-non-profits\/charitable-organizations\/restriction-of-political-campaign-intervention-by-section-501c3-tax-exempt-organizations\">IRS<\/a>).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The article implies that she \u201ccaught them\u201d violating the tax code:&nbsp;&nbsp;GOTCHA!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exception<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">What the author fails to note, is that there is a second section to the tax statute, the \u201cexceptions\u201d section.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em>\u201cCertain activities or expenditures may not be prohibited depending on the facts and circumstances.&nbsp; For example, certain voter education activities (including presenting public forums and publishing voter education guides) conducted in a non-partisan manner do not constitute prohibited political campaign activity.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/charities-non-profits\/charitable-organizations\/restriction-of-political-campaign-intervention-by-section-501c3-tax-exempt-organizations\">IRS<\/a>).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">So, one could argue, that the \u201cNO KINGS\u201d marches were \u201cvoter education\u201d, or simply expressing their opinions.\u00a0\u00a0And besides, nothing about \u201cNO KINGS\u201d was a political campaign.\u00a0\u00a0President Trump is the President, until 2028, and will not run another campaign.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, there are no<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> candidates<\/span> or<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> opponents <\/span>for 2028, to intervene in, yet.\u00a0\u00a0So, for all those 501c3\u2019s, their tax status remains safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"> Nomani also failed to mention that such familiar right-wing political action groups as the Heritage Foundation, the Claremont Foundation, and Hillsdale College, all involved in Project 2025 and electing Donald Trump, are also 501c3\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Radicals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">But she does go on to explain all of her work to link \u201cprogressive\u201d groups to radical Islam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201c<em>The groups include several organizations, including Jewish Voice for Peace and Sarsour\u2019s MPower Change Action Fund, that represent the unholy alliance of Islamist sympathizers and leftists who have fueled fiery protests against the existence of the state of Israel, following the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas on Israelis.
