So let\u2019s say a public school district is looking to hire a fifth grade teacher. Sure, they want the best teacher than can get. And since teaching jobs, despite the relatively low pay and benefits, are still at a premium, there are dozens of applications, dozens of resumes to read. The personnel department starts the \u201cprocess\u201d by reading, and setting up two piles. Pile one: those rejected out of hand, just on the \u201cqualifications\u201d or lack thereof. Pile two: those that make the cut, and might be called in for interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who doesn\u2019t make the cut?\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s start with the basics:\u00a0\u00a0do they have a criminal record (deal-breaker), do they have a history of multiple bankruptcies (not always a deal-breaker), do they have any hint of sexual misconduct with minors (always a deal-breaker).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then there\u2019s the \u201csearch\u201d, a Google and social media search of the candidates.\u00a0\u00a0What comes up?\u00a0\u00a0Is the candidate an extremist, or publicly uses profane or lewd language?\u00a0\u00a0Would the school district be embarrassed by anything that comes up in the search?\u00a0\u00a0If so, no reason to continue; another addition to pile one.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some might ask, why look at the \u201cpublic persona\u201d of a teacher candidate? Privacy rights advocates might say it\u2019s \u201cNOYB\u201d (none of your business). As long as the candidate can do the job, in the classroom, then what happens outside the workplace isn\u2019t a concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the candidate is being hired as a \u201cpublic\u201d official, in a true sense.\u00a0\u00a0They are going to be entrusted with as many as thirty kids, for seven hours, day in and day out.\u00a0\u00a0Those kids (and their parents) can run the same Google searches.\u00a0\u00a0What happens when they find out that the teacher is also a stripper (that happened), or arrested for drug dealing (that happened too), or has pictures of drunk and disorderly behavior (yep \u2013 that one too).\u00a0\u00a0Are those parents willing to entrust their child to that person?\u00a0\u00a0Would you entrust yours?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thans goodness Donald Trump isn\u2019t a stripper (there\u2019s a vision you\u2019ll never get out of your head \u2013 Hah!!) .\u00a0\u00a0And he doesn\u2019t deal drugs, and supposedly, doesn\u2019t drink.\u00a0\u00a0But he should never had made it to pile two in any public service job, much less on the ballot for President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donald Trump is a convicted felon, a documented liar, a businessman who went bankrupt six times, a man who committed sexual battery and consorted with a known child molester. There are pages of reasons, not even political, why Donald Trump should not be hired as a fifth grade teacher, much less as President of the United States. And yet, he\u2019s still on the ballot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I know, I know.\u00a0\u00a0There are a huge number of Americans, over 40%, who give Trump a \u201cpass\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0They see him as the \u201cimperfect vessel\u201d, the damaged goods that still represents their views of how America should be governed.\u00a0\u00a0They have \u201cforgiven him his trespasses\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0As the Trump folks said: all of the \u201ctrespasses\u201d, from Stormy Daniels and Access Hollywood, to business bankruptcies and fraudulent college classes; were \u201cabsolved\u201d by the 2016 election.\u00a0\u00a0By winning the Presidency, Trump got a \u201cclean slate\u201d according to them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2020 was a referendum on Trump\u2019s term in the White House: he failed. And since then: the litany of Trump\u2019s failures, indictments, convictions and \u201cimproper behaviors\u201d is even longer than it was before 2016. The \u201cimperfect vessel\u201d is now leaking like a sieve. And the question remains, where is the outcry to \u201cget him off the ballot\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wait a minute; there\u2019s the media:\u00a0\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>,\u00a0The Wall Street Journal,\u00a0<\/em>all the mainstream news organizations.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Are they leading the way in calling out the complete fallacy in letting this man run for President?\u00a0\u00a0No, they are too busy deciding that the other candidate, one of the most successful Presidents in modern history, is too old for the job.\u00a0\u00a0(This just in, the New York Times editorial board must have read my mind, they are calling out Trump \u2013 about time!!).\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n My London-born Mom used to use an old English expression:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWhat\u2019s good for the goose is good for the gander\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Here in America we say it a little different, \u201cWhat\u2019s fair is fair\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0I watched the Trump-Biden debate a couple of weeks ago.\u00a0\u00a0I think there is plenty of room for question about President Biden\u2019s fitness.\u00a0\u00a0But for sure, Trump\u2019s performance also raised a lot of questions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n And with his record, there needs to be another old American concept \u2013 equal time.\u00a0\u00a0With all of the scrutiny of Biden, where\u2019s all the outrage about Trump?\u00a0\u00a0Just because he\u2019s been \u201cabsolved\u201d by his MAGA following, it doesn\u2019t mean that his record, and his actions, are now just \u201cforgiven trespasses\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\nGeese<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
