The Autumn Leaves<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No the leaves aren\u2019t falling.  There\u2019s no hint of snow in the air.  Today the high\u2019s going to be over eighty degrees, the grass needs cutting, and \u201cback to school\u201d sales are everywhere.  It\u2019s August; but here in Ohio, it\u2019s election day.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jenn and I voted over the weekend.\u00a0\u00a0We drove to the county seat, Newark, and cast our single issue ballot, one that\u2019s costing the taxpayers of Ohio $20 million.\u00a0\u00a0The state legislature, who only a few months ago said August elections were foolish and undemocratic, felt this Issue was so important that it was worth the hypocrisy, effort and money.\u00a0\u00a0Their political calculation is cynical.\u00a0\u00a0They hope only their few stalwarts will appear at the polls.\u00a0\u00a0So here we are:\u00a0\u00a0it\u2019s election day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s so important that it can\u2019t wait until November, already an off-off year election \u2013 2023?\u00a0\u00a0The Legislature wants to make it harder for the citizens of Ohio to change the state Constitution.\u00a0\u00a0They want to alter the more than a century old initiative addition to the Constitution, one that allowed citizens to \u201cbypass\u201d that same legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
