nd<\/sup>\u00a0birthday last week.\u00a0\u00a0He\u2019s moving \u2013 \u201cgone to California\u201d – and stayed with us for a few days along the way.\u00a0\u00a0We sat down to watch TV for a bit, and I asked him what he\u2019d like to see.\u00a0\u00a0He said that he really doesn\u2019t watch TV.\u00a0\u00a0Sure he catches sports, but he’s selective about his other viewing.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s all about streaming (I guess that\u2019s why \u201cwe\u201d have Netflix and HBO).\u00a0\u00a0He targets his entertainment, \u201cI\u2019m streaming this show\u201d, and binges for hours.\u00a0\u00a0Jenn and I are more \u201cold fashioned\u201d television viewers.\u00a0\u00a0We have a streaming service, Hulu, that provides us with the local channels and \u201ctraditional\u201d networks.\u00a0\u00a0So we often watch just whatever is on at that time.\u00a0\u00a0Our son goes to a show, we go to the \u201cold fashioned\u201d television guide to select one.<\/p>\n\n\n\nOf course, we watch a lot of \u201ccable news\u201d (if you\u2019ve read many of these essays on \u201cOur America\u201d, it shouldn\u2019t surprise you that MSNBC is at the top of that list). Jenn also sources a lot of information from Twitter. Our son gets his news from \u201cpodcasts\u201d and, as he puts it, research on the internet. We don\u2019t agree on a lot of issues, but we do try to have careful discussions. There are things that transcend the day-to-day politics, and we all work at keeping our political conversations \u201ccivil\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Faux News<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Jenn is travelling with him to California, and I\u2019m staying with the dogs. Last night, I sat down with an eighty pound dog asleep in my lap to watch TV. All of \u201cour regular\u201d Tuesday shows (FBI-FBI-FBI) were re-runs, and I can only stand \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d for spurts. So I switched over to watch what Sean Hannity at Fox \u201cNews\u201d was doing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was in South Carolina, and the highlight of his show was Republican Senator Tim Scott, running for President.\u00a0\u00a0This was my first look at Scott \u201cunplugged\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0He was a dynamic speaker, ignored Hannity and interacted with the audience, almost like a TV evangelical preacher.\u00a0\u00a0But the first fifteen minutes of the show was all-Hannity, and \u201call about\u201d Hunter Biden.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hunter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Hannity went through the litany of \u201cevidence\u201d against the President\u2019s son; from the infamous laptop (remember the almost blind computer repair man with the Tam-O-Shanter?) to crack addiction and tax evasion.\u00a0\u00a0By the time he was done he \u201cproved\u201d:\u00a0\u00a0Vice President Biden threatened to withhold billions of dollars from Ukraine to protect his son (not true), and got millions more as part of the \u201cBiden Crime Family\u201d (also not true).\u00a0\u00a0And all of those so-called crimes were \u201cprotected\u201d by the Merrick Garland Justice Department (really not true).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And Hunter himself got a \u201csweetheart\u201d deal from Justice, probably avoiding jail time while pleading guilty to misdemeanor tax and gun possession offences.\u00a0\u00a0Hannity compared the younger Biden to a \u201chit list\u201d of Trump men:\u00a0\u00a0Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, and Allan Weiselberg; all sentenced to jail.\u00a0\u00a0Hannity\u2019s point is that Republicans are victims; of a politicized FBI, a vengeful \u201cDemocrat\u201d Justice Department, and of injustice from the very institutions that are supposed to guarantee American justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That might make some sense, except for one little issue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Republicans\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Let\u2019s start with the Vice President Biden and his Ukraine connections. Sure, Biden talked about withholding money from Ukraine, insisting that they fire a prosecutor who refused to investigate corruption. A lot of the \u201cevidence\u201d about Biden\u2019s own \u201ccorruption\u201d came from a shaky source, connected to Russian intelligence, and delivered to the US by Rudy Giuliani. It was all turned over to the Republican US Attorney for Western Pennsylvania at the direction of Trump\u2019s Attorney General, Bill Barr. After looking at it, Scott Brady determined that there wasn\u2019t any actionable information. Republican Attorney General – Republican US Attorney: no charges filed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And as far as Hunter is concerned, all of the evidence was turned over to another Trump appointed Republican US Attorney, this one for Delaware, David Weiss.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, Democrats Biden and Garland left Republican Weiss in place so that he could continue the Hunter Biden investigation.\u00a0\u00a0Garland treated Weiss like a Special Prosecutor, (like Jack Smith), allowing him the freedom to make his own decision on whether and what to prosecute.\u00a0\u00a0So the \u201csweetheart\u201d deal for Hunter Biden is a product of an investigation and indictment by a Trump and Barr appointed US Attorney, left in office by the \u201cevil\u201d Democrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tormentors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
By the way, two of the original Hannity list, Manafort and Stone; were investigated by an FBI with a Trump appointed Director (Chris Wray, still there), and all put away under a Republican Justice Department, appointed by the Trump Administration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So if all of these \u201cvictims\u201d were \u201cvictimized\u201d by the Justice Department, there\u2019s really only one \u201ccommon denominator\u201d: Republican appointees. That makes it hard to blame Biden (the President) or Garland. But those \u201clittle details\u201d don\u2019t matter to Hannity or Tim Scott, or Jim Jordan and his \u201cweaponization committee\u201d. They need a \u201ctormentor\u201d to match Republican victimhood. Democrats fit the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
