{"id":6189,"date":"2023-03-06T09:16:57","date_gmt":"2023-03-06T14:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/?p=6189"},"modified":"2023-07-13T11:24:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-13T15:24:48","slug":"florida-regulates-weapons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/index.php\/2023\/03\/06\/florida-regulates-weapons\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Regulates Weapons"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This Just In<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I only had a flash of the news \u2013 but what a relief it was.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Florida State Legislature has come to its senses.&nbsp;&nbsp;The state, home to the infamous Pulse Nightclub attack in 2016 and the Parkland High School shooting in 2018, finally is passing some restrictive weapon legislation. The Legislature overcame their concern for the Bill of Rights, and are taking action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone using a weapon (except professionals) must register that weapon with State authorities.&nbsp;&nbsp;Having possession without registration can result in fines, levied daily.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nothing about the proposed law would violate the Bill of Rights about owning the weapon, just how it is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I just want to say, personally, how pleased I am to see the \u201cFree State of Florida\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;begin to come to grips with their obsession with guns and the Second Amendment.&nbsp;&nbsp;Finally the work of the Parkland shooting \u201cKids\u201d (now in their mid-twenties) has paid off.&nbsp;&nbsp;Children, minorities, LGBTQ folks and all citizens in Florida will be safer for the action.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hopefully other states, already mimicking the dreadful DeSantis \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d law, will follow this Florida advance as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Whoops<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Wait \u2013 they aren\u2019t talking about the Second Amendment.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s the FIRST Amendment, the one that says, \u201c<em>Congress shall make no law\u2026abridging the freedom of speech or of the press<\/em>\u2026\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And the weapon is\u2026a blog?\u00a0\u00a0A blog like the one you\u2019re reading right now, so dangerous, that the \u201cFree State\u201d deems it necessary to register and regulate them.\u00a0\u00a0But ONLY if the \u201cweapon\u201d, the blog, is \u201cpointed\u201d at Florida\u2019s Governor Ron DeSantis, the Florida Attorney General, or other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you kidding?&nbsp;&nbsp;The thin skinned, overweight, white overlords of the \u201cFree State\u201d are so afraid of criticism, that they are seeking protection from \u2013 blogs? (<em>Don\u2019t believe me \u2013 here\u2019s the link to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1316\/BillText\/Filed\/HTML\">SR 1316 text<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 check-out lines 138 thru 253).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sticks and Stones<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cgentlemen\u201d of the Florida State Legislature, so enamored with the Second Amendment \u201c\u2026<em>right to bear arms shall not be infringed<\/em>\u201d (ignoring the whole \u201c<em>well-regulated militia<\/em>\u201d part) are willing to directly regulate freedom of speech and the press.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s because bloggers said nasty things about the Florida leadership, like DeSantis, even insulting them by calling them overweight and thin-skinned.\u00a0\u00a0Of course, that\u2019s way beyond what elected government officials should have to put up with.\u00a0\u00a0Constitutional protections be damned, in the \u201cfree state\u201d those \u201cleaders\u201d need protection.\u00a0\u00a0\u201c<em>Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words\u2026<\/em>\u201d obviously require regulation.\u00a0\u00a0Especially when they are words from \u201cprivate\u201d individuals.\u00a0\u00a0Professionals in the media are exempt from the proposed law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I fashion myself as an \u201cessayist\u201d, even if Florida Senate Bill 1316 would define me as a blogger.\u00a0\u00a0As my essays appear on a website, \u201cOur America\u201d, it fits the definition of a \u201cblog\u201d needing regulation.\u00a0\u00a0Especially this particular \u201cblog\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0All I need now is to earn some money doing it.\u00a0\u00a0Right now \u201cOur America\u201d is free to read, without advertising.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s just a place where I can express my views, tell stories, and try to continue my life-long career of \u201ceducation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blogger Police<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Because, if Senate Bill 1316 were to become law, I desperately would like the \u201cFree State\u201d to reach out to Ohio and sue me for violating their terms. I wonder if they\u2019d send Florida State Troopers to whisk me away to Tallahassee in the middle of the night.&nbsp;&nbsp;I know they have a private airline already under contract (to move migrants to big Northern cities).&nbsp;&nbsp;I\u2019m pretty sure that any Federal Court, even Donald Trump\u2019s handpicked judge in Fort Pierce, wouldn\u2019t let this stand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or maybe Governor DeSantis will create a \u201cblogger police\u201d like he created the \u201celection police\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;They can wear bullet proof vests with FBP emblazoned on the back (Florida Blogger Police).
