class=\"wp-block-heading\">Old Classrooms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many years, teachers wouldn\u2019t allow students to record their classes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Folks from outside education thought that was \u201cnefarious\u201d; that teachers didn\u2019t want to be held accountable for what they said.&nbsp;&nbsp;But the real answer was simpler.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kids, then and now, are technically more proficient than their parents and their teachers.&nbsp;&nbsp;It didn\u2019t take much editing for a perfectly normal lecture or discussion, to turn into something completely unacceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a teacher really did say or do something that out of bounds, there was always thirty-some witnesses.&nbsp;&nbsp;But one altered tape could destroy a teacher\u2019s career.&nbsp;&nbsp;So teachers of the past didn\u2019t allow their classes to be recorded.&nbsp;&nbsp;But in our current age of Zoom classrooms and every single kid carrying a recording device, teachers are well aware that they are vulnerable to \u201cediting\u201d at every turn.&nbsp;&nbsp;It\u2019s now just another \u201cassumed risk\u201d of the profession.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lying Eyes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Project Veritas,&nbsp;<\/em>led by James O\u2019Keefe,<em>&nbsp;<\/em>is a far-right group that creates videos to trash their opponents.&nbsp;&nbsp;They use hidden cameras to catch the conversations of the \u201cenemy\u201d, then edit the outcome to make them look foolish and nefarious.&nbsp;&nbsp;For example, it was&nbsp;<em>Project Veritas&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;that showed \u201cevidence\u201d that Planned Parenthood was selling parts of aborted fetuses.&nbsp;&nbsp;The evidence was from edited hidden video of \u201cinterviews\u201d, carefully clipped to create the appearance that Planned Parenthood executives were bragging about the sales.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was a lie \u2013 but it\u2019s hard to deny your \u201clying eyes and ears\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just like that teacher from twenty years ago, the edited version says whatever the editor wants it to say.&nbsp;&nbsp;O\u2019Keefe set the \u201cstandard\u201d:&nbsp;&nbsp;fake credentials, hidden audio and video, edited responses to create a false narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Word Salad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Accuracy in Media&nbsp;<\/em>is another \u201cgotcha\u201d group, run by a&nbsp;<em>Project Veritas&nbsp;<\/em>alum.<em>&nbsp;<\/em>This week they posted a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aim.org\/investigations\/crtcolumbus\/\">video<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;of two local high school administrators&nbsp;&nbsp;(Upper Arlington and Groveport) discussing how their schools \u201csupposedly\u201d teach Critical Race Theory.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The video authors follow the&nbsp;<em>Project Veritas<\/em>&nbsp;playbook, posing as parents enrolling their kids in school, and just asking \u201ca couple of questions\u201d recorded by hidden video and audio.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They use a \u201cword salad\u201d game to \u201ccatch\u201d the schools.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Accuracy in Media<\/em>&nbsp;equates their ultimate \u201cbogeyman\u201d \u2013 Critical Race Theory \u2013 with other educational terms such as Social-Emotional-Learning, Diversity and Equity Education.&nbsp;&nbsp;Social-Emotional Learning is defined as&nbsp;\u201c\u2026the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfchildren.org\/what-is-social-emotional-learning\/\">Committee for Children<\/a>).\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That sounds like something every child needs, but, like the term Critical Race Theory itself, the video creators describe it as \u201cliberal indoctrination\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;Diversity and Equity, standard educational goals since the 1970\u2019s, are also being \u201cturned\u201d into evil.&nbsp;&nbsp;And don\u2019t even get them started on white privilege or inherent racism.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gotcha<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So as the administrators use those terms, the \u201cannouncer\u201d jumps in to quickly redefine them as part of the whole \u201cCritical Race Theory conspiracy\u201d of the \u201cliberal public schools\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The announcer (who is the President of&nbsp;<em>Accuracy in Media)&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;uses the \u201cword salad\u201d to get to his final point:&nbsp;&nbsp;you can\u2019t trust the \u201cliberal\u201d public schools, so support laws which give public money to private schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As those school administrators found, you can\u2019t trust anyone to have an honest conversation.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now they are at risk of being fired, and the school districts are scrambling to explain exactly what they\u2019re doing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Public schools serve everyone in their communities, and those two districts now are \u201cout-ted\u201d to a segment of those constituents,&nbsp;&nbsp;even though they aren\u2019t doing anything wrong.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Florida Man<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s happening here in Ohio, but in Florida, this kind of \u201cCritical Race Theory\u201d nonsense is even more mainstream.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">America\u2019s colleges have been teaching classes in African American History for fifty years.&nbsp;&nbsp;This year, the College Board developed a high school advanced placement class (AP) in the subject.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are piloting the course program in sixty high schools throughout the United States:&nbsp;&nbsp;except in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Florida legislature already has passed laws that the&nbsp;<em>Accuracy in Media<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;crowd wants for Ohio.&nbsp;&nbsp;They banned the teaching of Critical Race Theory in schools, conflating all of the other \u201cword salad\u201d terms as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Governor of Florida this week ordered that AP African American Studies cannot be taught in Florida public schools, because it is in violation of that law.&nbsp;&nbsp;As the Governor\u2019s office said: it\u2019s too \u201cwoke\u201d, and not \u201creal history\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">White Wash<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cReal history\u201d to the Florida legislature is the whitewashed version of American history we were taught in schools of the 1950\u2019s and 60\u2019s.&nbsp;&nbsp;Black influence in America was restricted to Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, George Washington Carver and Jackie Robinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Civil War was all about the nature of the Constitutional agreement to form a union, and had little to do with enslavement.&nbsp;&nbsp;Only history books acceptable in Texas were allowed in America\u2019s classrooms.&nbsp;&nbsp;We knew more about Davy Crockett and the Alamo, then we did about the Emancipation Proclamation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To the Florida legislature, \u201ccolor blindness\u201d (and LGBTQIA blindness, and disability blindness) are all equal to \u201cfairness\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;Of course, that\u2019s not fair, not to the kids who aren\u2019t in the majority.&nbsp;&nbsp;But that\u2019s where Florida is \u201cleading\u201d American education \u2013 back to the old \u201cwhite culture\u201d domination of the mid-20<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;century.&nbsp;&nbsp;And Ohio isn\u2019t far behind, with this new \u201cevidence\u201d to support their biased claims.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if saying that is \u201cwoke\u201d \u2013 so be it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Old Classrooms For
