Our Divide<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We have a precipitous divide in American politics.  The numbers are available, stark, and essentially terrifying.  More than twenty million American voters believe the 2020 election was stolen from Donald J. Trump.  They know it in their hearts:  it was stolen, cheated, ripped off.  To use a football analogy, \u201c\u2026we won on the field, but lost on the scoreboard\u201d.  And not because the other team scored more points.  No, they lost on the scoreboard because someone rigged the board to give more points for the other team\u2019s touchdowns, and less points for theirs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They believe, because it’s a \u201cprophecy fulfilled\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Their leaders, with the 45th President of the United States in front, convinced them that if he lost, the election was stolen.\u00a0\u00a0The \u201cground was softened\u201d by years of preparation, from even before the 2016 election.\u00a0\u00a0They could not trust the outcome, nor the counters, nor the ballots themselves.\u00a0\u00a0They could not trust that their vote for Trump was counted for Trump.\u00a0\u00a0The Democrats, or the Chinese, or the George Soros himself rigged the system.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They aren\u2019t the only ones who questioned the election process.\u00a0\u00a0Those of us who voted for Hillary Clinton asked some of the same questions after the 2016 results.\u00a0\u00a0Over two years later in April of 2019 as the Russiagate scandal broke, I wrote about those doubts in\u00a0Put On My Foil Hat<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>But since even the \u201cdoubters\u201d could never find final proof, most never crossed the line into \u201ctrue-believers\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0But the twenty million have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De-Construction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Steve Bannon, the \u201cSvengali\u201d behind the plan,  called it \u201cDe-Construction\u201d of the government.  I wrote about it over four years ago in November of 2017, (The Bully and Bannon<\/a>). But even as I did, I didn\u2019t understand the full import of his goals.  When Bannon said don\u2019t trust government, he didn\u2019t make a distinction between Federal, State or Local.  He didn\u2019t even divine out Republicans versus Democrats.  It wasn\u2019t until November of 2020, when the \u201cStop the Steal\u201d movement turned on Republicans running local and state election offices across the country, that I realized the full depth of his \u201cDe-Construction\u201d plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If everything is corrupt, then it should be no problem that Trump, the sitting President, was on the phone with the chief election official in Georgia demanding \u201cjust enough\u201d votes to win.\u00a0\u00a0Because, according to him, it\u2019s all rigged anyway, so rig it for me.\u00a0\u00a0And since the counters are all crooked; they deserve the threats and the screamers, the folks with semi-automatic weapons parading on the sidewalks outside of their homes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventy-Seven Minutemen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

And speaking of weapons, the twenty million need to arm themselves.\u00a0\u00a0There will come a day when their weapons may be needed to make sure their “truth\u201d is revealed.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s no mistake that Stop the Steal and the Second Amendment are totally intertwined.\u00a0\u00a0The idea: Don\u2019t let them get your guns; it\u2019s the only way you will be able to fight back. Bannon doesn’t believe\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThe Establishment\u201d will go down without a fight. There were Seventy-seven Minuteman on the Lexington Green. They started the American Revolution.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s the true import of the \u201cDon\u2019t Tread on Me\u201d flag.\u00a0\u00a0So be ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s because it\u2019s really true.  The guy down the street from me is ready to hold his AR-15 up against the 82nd Airborne para-roping from the Black Helicopters.  It\u2019s like a scene from the original Red Dawn, <\/em>as the brat pack of Patrick Swayze, C Thomas Howell, Jennifer Gray and Charlie Sheen stood up against the entire Soviet Army.  They believe it.  And they have legal armories where they practice, right  down the road, right out in the open, because it IS legal to do so.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gospel According to Fox<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

That inherent mistrust, fueled by years of\u00a0Fox News\u00a0<\/em>and other propaganda spread like a slow pandemic. And \u00a0when the real pandemic hit, the logic became convoluted.\u00a0\u00a0President Trump seemed to lose the election because of Covid, so Biden won because of Covid, so anything he does to stop Covid is benefitting his illegitimate Presidency, so don\u2019t get vaccinated.\u00a0\u00a0And since\u00a0Fox\u00a0<\/em>and the rest can provide \u201cfacts\u201d and “experts” to back why vaccines don\u2019t work, they have their \u201cproof\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Alternative to the gospel of Bannon, otherwise known as the mainstream media, are part of the \u201cConstructed Establishment\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0So don\u2019t believe, don\u2019t listen, don\u2019t even engage with those that mistakenly trust what the\u00a0AP<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0or other independent news organizations might say.\u00a0\u00a0As one of my friends once told me; \u201cdo you wonder why no one reads your \u201cblogs\u201d anymore?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0I don\u2019t wonder, I see the statistics behind each essay.\u00a0\u00a0I know people read my essays.\u00a0\u00a0But the early years of great debates about Trump World<\/em>, mostly on\u00a0Facebook,<\/em>\u00a0 are over.\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t engage, because it might cause you to question.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Rising Tide<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

They are \u201ctrue believers\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t underestimate their power, will and desire.\u00a0\u00a0After 2016, they thought they had it made.\u00a0 When the 2020 vote came in, they reacted. But\u00a0January 6th was a small disorganized protest compared to what\u2019s coming.\u00a0\u00a0Now, their power is represented by the co-opted Republican Party.\u00a0\u00a0They are legally rigging the states, so that Trump\/Republican legislatures can LEGALLY overturn the vote of the people.\u00a0\u00a0And come 2024, they will be so much better prepared, and financed, and determined.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democrats do have a chance to counter at least the \u201clegal\u201d rigging of the state elections.\u00a0\u00a0But that chance is right now, and will quickly slip away unless action is taken.\u00a0\u00a0The House is ready, the President is sort of ready, but the Senate is not.\u00a0\u00a0So many of our nation\u2019s critical issues are dependent on two votes in the Senate.\u00a0\u00a0And there is no sense that those votes will come, even though they claim to be Democrats.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But don\u2019t be fooled \u2013 even if the voting and election certification issues are fixed, there are still twenty million true believers. That won’t change, even as Democrats get excited about Build Back Better and the January 6th Committee.\u00a0\u00a0Like standing at the edge of the sea, the sand is slipping beneath their feet, and the tide is rising.\u00a0\u00a0Will Democrats happily watch our boats go to the horizon, enjoying the view \u2013 until we drown?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
