Common Sense<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is the America of the 2020\u2019s.  In the \u201cbefore times\u201d sometime before the turn of the century, some things used to be just common sense.  Things like voting ought to be easier for everyone so everyone can vote. Or kids should get vaccinations to protect them from diseases.  Or you might not like the President of the United States, but you shouldn\u2019t threaten to kill him.  But those things aren\u2019t  common sense anymore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big Bird, that 8\u20192\u201d character on Sesame Street, has been on the air since 1969.  That makes him over fifty-two years old.  But Big Bird \u201cidentifies\u201d (there goes the argument) as a six year old \u2013 and has since 1979.  Big Bird was first vaccinated for measles on the air in 1972 (Newsweek<\/a>).  Kids relate to Big Bird, he\u2019s the soft friendly voice explaining why things like \u201cshots\u201d are good for kids, even if they hurt, a little.  So it wasn\u2019t a big surprise that, now that the FDA has approved Covid vaccinations for 5 to 12 year old\u2019s:  Big Bird got his shot.  After all, he\u2019s eligible, he\u2019s six!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like many socially responsible celebrities, Big Bird took his shot, and tweeted about it –\u00a0\u00a0cause he\u2019s a \u2013 Bird!\u00a0\u00a0Kids shouldn\u2019t get Covid.\u00a0\u00a0It can make them sick, and they can make others sick even if they don\u2019t get ill themselves.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s part of the way to end the pandemic, get enough folks vaccinated to stop the disease from spreading.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s old fashioned I know, common sense.\u00a0\u00a0And Big Bird let kids know that while his wing \u201cgot sore\u201d, he was doing a good thing for himself and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victims<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Texas Senator Ted Cruz called it out as\u00a0\u00a0\u201cgovernment propaganda\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Just to clarify something. Big Bird, nor Sesame Street, nor the Children\u2019s Television Workshop (now called the Sesame Workshop) aren’t now or never were owned by any government entity.\u00a0\u00a0Yes, they appear on PBS, a government funded public broadcasting system, but the show and its characters are all privately owned and controlled.\u00a0\u00a0So it\u2019s not \u201cgovernment\u201d propaganda.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, it\u2019s not propaganda at all.\u00a0\u00a0Why not?\u00a0\u00a0Because it\u2019s science, not politics, that drives Sesame Workshop to let kids know the Covid shot is OK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it doesn\u2019t fit in with Senator Cruz\u2019s political strategy, though he\u2019s vaccinated.\u00a0\u00a0And it doesn\u2019t fit with the\u00a0Fox News\u00a0<\/em>narrative, who echoed the \u201cpropaganda\u201d charge, and then claimed Big Bird should be shamed for not getting the vaccine sooner (but he\u2019s six).\u00a0\u00a0Fox News\u00a0<\/em>mandates their employees get the vaccine or get daily Covid tests since September (AP<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0For Cruz and Fox, it\u2019s a way to make the poor \u201cvictims\u201d of our modern society feel further \u201cvictimized\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThe Government, is trying to manipulate your child into wanting a Covid shot\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0As the MSD Kids say, I call BS.\u00a0\u00a0You can\u2019t have a shot, and then complain when others get the shot and tell people about it \u2013 even Big Birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Play Fake<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I stand with Big Bird, not another celebrity, Green Bay Quarterback Aaron Rogers.  Rogers lied about getting vaccinated, then got Covid, and spouted real \u201cpropaganda\u201d about why he didn\u2019t get the vaccine, and his current treatments.  But the truth is in his actions.  He lied, saying that he was \u201cimmunized\u201d (pretending that meant vaccinated) because he didn\u2019t want to get \u201ccriticized\u201d.  His body, his choice:  except that there are other team members now \u201cnot available\u201d due to Covid.  Did Rogers give it to them \u2013 did he get it from them?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one thing we do know is that Rogers did not follow the NFL protocol for unvaccinated athletes.  The league fined Rogers and the Packers for it.  His desire to not be \u201ccriticized\u201d led him to lie.  There\u2019s an old saying \u201cYou know you\u2019re doing something wrong when you have to lie about doing it\u201d.  Rogers may be among the best at throwing a football, but as a man and a leader, he falls woefully short, especially when compared to \u2013 you guessed it \u2013 Big Bird!  Now, of course, he is a victim of the \u201cwoke mob\u201d, cancelled by the \u201cleft\u201d.  I guess better than being a victim of the Kansas City Chief\u2019s defensive end Melvin Ingram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slaying Cartoons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

And while we are on fictional characters, let\u2019s talk about Republican Congressman Paul Gosar from Arizona.  He\u2019s tweeted in \u201canime\u201d, the Japanese cartoons.  Gosar has replaced the Japanese hero\u2019s face with his own, using his sword to \u201cslay\u201d the monsters with the faces of President Biden and Congressman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It used to be, back in the \u201cbefore times\u201d, that we recognized that threatening the President (or a Member of Congress) was a bad idea.  The \u201cjoke\u201d of the 9-11 era was that the NSA was monitoring every phone conversation.  Mix two words in a conversation in any order:  bomb and bush, and you could expect an FBI knock at the door.  So don\u2019t say, \u201cI got bombed last night, and slept in the bush\u201d.  All of that was too close to \u201cbomb President Bush\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But now a United States Congressman can \u201ctweet\u201d video of his image attacking the President with a sword. When many reasonably called out Gosar for the video, his staff tweeted another cartoon (Twitter<\/a>).  A red-eyed, scraggly haired pale figure wearing glasses, obviously a \u201cwoke-lefty\u201d, declaimed:  \u201cYour cartoon anime scares me with jet pack flying and light sabers\u201d.  A bearded, coifed and tanned figure answers:  \u201cIt\u2019s a cartoon. Relax\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hey, Fox News <\/em>and Senator \u201cCancun\u201d (can\u2019t take credit for that, it\u2019s from DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison):  Relax.  It\u2019s a fictional Bird.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
