{"id":3503,"date":"2020-11-11T07:55:57","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T12:55:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/?p=3503"},"modified":"2020-11-11T07:56:05","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T12:56:05","slug":"in-the-heat-of-the-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/index.php\/2020\/11\/11\/in-the-heat-of-the-night\/","title":{"rendered":"In the Heat of the Night"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Here\u2019s the&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bdd7rmTASxw\"><em>theme song<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;from the show  &#8211; It\u2019s still available on MeTV \u2013 4 times a day, 6 days a week.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>NOTE<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This is my own little vignette.\u00a0\u00a0You can\u2019t fact check this, even on quasi-factual Wikipedia.\u00a0\u00a0I am making this entire conversation up.\u00a0\u00a0Before anyone complains I say again:\u00a0\u00a0this is a fictional tale.\u00a0\u00a0I have no inside knowledge, no \u201cbugs\u201d in the Georgia Republican Party Headquarters or Doug \u201cI Lost to a Woman\u201d Collins\u2019 home.\u00a0\u00a0But here&#8217;s how the conversation might have gone &#8211; from the outside looking in.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>The Scene<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A high level Political meeting last weekend at the Republican Party Headquarters off Peachtree in Atlanta.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, Congressman Doug Collins, and Senator\u2019s Kelli Loeffler and David Perdue are around a conference table.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are not socially distanced, and there are no masks.&nbsp;&nbsp;And they\u2019re sharing boiled Georgia peanuts &#8212; all from the same bowl.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Act I<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat the Hell happened on Election Day?\u201d cried out the Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWhere were all the lines in Atlanta?&nbsp;&nbsp;Who let all \u2018those people\u2019 vote so easily? We\u2019ve spent generations stopping \u2018them,\u2019 who dropped the ball this time?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congressman Doug Collins responded:&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYep, we let \u2018them\u2019 all vote, and we lost.&nbsp;&nbsp;Who is going to tell the President &#8212; Georgia\u2019s going Blue!!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Appointed Senator Kelli Loeffler chimed in \u2013 \u201cWell we can\u2019t say the election was rigged.&nbsp;&nbsp;We\u2019ve got a Republican Governor, a Republican Legislature, even a Republican Secretary of State.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And besides, the rest of us Republicans did OK.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was just the President who got beat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senator David Perdue jumped in. \u201cWe sure can\u2019t tell the President that.&nbsp;&nbsp;We need him to get his \u2018Trumpers\u2019 back out to vote for us in January.&nbsp;&nbsp;If we don&#8217;t back his claims of voting fraud then he\u2019ll \u2018Tweet\u2019 all over us like Russian hookers in a fancy hotel \u2013 and we\u2019ll lose to the Jewish guy and that Black fella.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doug Collins continued:&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWell where the \u2018heck\u2019 (he\u2019s a preacher, you know) is Governor Kemp?&nbsp;&nbsp;He rigged the whole system for us two years ago \u2013 no one\u2019s seen him since before election week.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0The Chairman replied, \u201cOh, Doug boy\u2019s gone down to St. Simon\u2019s Island, and seems to have lost his cell phone.\u00a0\u00a0He doesn\u2019t want to have anything to do with  this cluster. He\u2019s got enough worries about tangling with Stacy Abrams in two years.\u00a0\u00a0If the Black vote turned out for Biden, what do you think they\u2019ll do for Stacy? He doesn\u2019t want to say anything that will make him a even bigger target than he already is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Act II<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perdue replied: \u201cWell if we can\u2019t blame Kemp, then somebody\u2019s got to take the fall for this.\u00a0\u00a0Someone screwed up and let the election be fair.\u00a0\u00a0God (glancing at Collins) Darn-it, we\u2019ve got to blame somebody.\u00a0\u00a0What\u2019s the Secretary of State\u2019s name? Brad Hamburger Raffle?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collins responded, \u201cHis name\u2019s Brad Raffensberger. He was a councilman from John\u2019s Creek, up northeast of Atlanta.&nbsp;&nbsp;And he went to school in Canada for Heaven\u2019s sake \u2013 got an engineering degree up there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNOT GEORGIA TECH?\u201d boomed the Chairman.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWell we can\u2019t blame Kemp, he\u2019ll rat us out for 2018. And we can\u2019t admit the election was fair.&nbsp;&nbsp;So lets demand that Raffle-ticket resign for screwing everything up!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loeffler and Perdue chimed in together, \u201cWe\u2019ll tell Trump Raffle-Ticket did it!&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Then he\u2019ll blame him \u2013 not us \u2013 and get the Trumpers out for the January election!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Act III<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collins looked grim \u2013 he was still a loser.\u00a0\u00a0But he knew that there was a way he could make Trump a winner \u2013 even though he lost.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cHere\u2019s my idea.\u00a0\u00a0We claim Raffensberger screwed up \u2013 by \u2013 maybe \u2013 Yes &#8211; the mail-in votes getting counted wrong.\u00a0\u00a0So we demand that there be a recount.\u00a0\u00a0Even better yet make it a HAND recount!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chairman smiled. \u201cWhy, that\u2019ll take weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp;So many weeks, that there won\u2019t be a result when it comes time for the Electors be certified by the Governor to the Electoral College.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYep,\u201d Collins replied.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cIt fits right in with my favorite saying; \u2018it takes a clock and a calendar\u2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;Time will run out, and the Georgia State Legislature will have to \u2018pick\u2019 the Electors.&nbsp;&nbsp;And since we control the Legislature, and the Governor to sign off, we can ignore the actual popular vote, screw the Democrats and send the Electoral votes from Georgia to Congress in favor of Trump!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loeffler was a little slow on the uptake.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cBut it won\u2019t matter, Biden will still have enough votes to win the Presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Perdue got it.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYep, but Trump will know we took care of him \u2013 and he\u2019ll be down here in Georgia having rallies, spreading COVID and convincing all his folks to come on out and vote for you and me on January 5<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Will be Republican HEROS!!!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Post Script<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I\u2019d like to say that the Democrats took the hand re-count to court, and won.\u00a0\u00a0But it\u2019s Georgia, and not every Georgia tale has a happy ending.\u00a0<\/em> <em>The story will continue&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u2019s the&nbsp;theme song&nbsp;from the show &#8211; It\u2019s still available on MeTV \u2013 4 times a day, 6 days a week.
