{"id":2909,"date":"2020-05-06T10:53:55","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T14:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/?p=2909"},"modified":"2020-05-06T10:54:01","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T14:54:01","slug":"live-and-let-die","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dahlman.online\/index.php\/2020\/05\/06\/live-and-let-die\/","title":{"rendered":"Live and Let Die"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Paul McCartney and Wings \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NR0UmZcf89E\">Live and Let Die<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not often (at least, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s often) that I just go off on a rant.&nbsp;&nbsp;But this is the day, and this essay might be categorized in the \u201crant\u201d column.&nbsp;&nbsp;Take it for what it is, but it\u2019s happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yesterday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, toured a factory in Arizona that makes facemasks.&nbsp;&nbsp;In the COVID-19 world, they are doing important work:&nbsp;&nbsp;facemasks help protect people from giving the virus to others, and from getting the virus themselves.&nbsp;&nbsp;The music playing in the background:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Live and Let Die<\/em>&nbsp;by Paul McCartney and Wings.&nbsp;&nbsp;But in what was undoubtedly an intentional act, the President chose not to wear a mask.&nbsp;&nbsp;And the others around him didn\u2019t either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It wasn\u2019t that the President was against all protective devices.&nbsp;&nbsp;He wore the protective eyewear needed in the factory environment.&nbsp;&nbsp;No, he was simply making a false point about the virus.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was saying, \u201cIt\u2019s over, and facemasks are really not needed\u201d. The theme song was the heavy-handed way of underlining the point:&nbsp;&nbsp;some will live, some will die, but the country is going to open up, regardless of what Dr. Fauci or the rest of the medical community says.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We don&#8217;t even need a Corona-Virus taskforce anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Money<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn\u2019t about those \u201cworkers\u201d who need to get back to their jobs.&nbsp;&nbsp;There are other ways they could be cared for:&nbsp;&nbsp;countries all over the world are literally paying folks to stay home to stop the spread of COVID-19.&nbsp;&nbsp;And it certainly isn\u2019t about \u201cthe poor\u201d at all:&nbsp;&nbsp;the President knows that the death rate among the poor is greater than any other group, and particularly among minorities.&nbsp;&nbsp;But they are also the most \u201cessential workers\u201d out in the community.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are already working, and getting sick, and dying at a greater proportion than everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No, those \u201cpoor workers\u201d need to GET BACK TO WORK.\u00a0\u00a0Our meat packing plants have turned into hotbeds of COVID?\u00a0\u00a0Too bad, we are ordering them reopened, ordering those workers back into a viral soup.\u00a0\u00a0If they don\u2019t, then Trump\u2019s voters won\u2019t get their boneless, skinless chicken breasts and 80-20 hamburgers because they won\u2019t be in the stores \u2013 and the nation won\u2019t stand for that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clock\u2019s Ticking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In what seems like another lifetime, Congressman Doug Collins of Georgia criticized the Democrats of the House for impeaching the President on \u201c\u2026a clock and a calendar,\u201d accusing them of hurrying ahead of the facts.&nbsp;&nbsp;Well, here\u2019s the real \u201cclock and calendar;\u201d it\u2019s the clock of the crashing economy, and the calendar of the 2020 Presidential election.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Trump knows that his only chance of re-election, if there\u2019s any remaining chance at all, is based on the James Carville phrase, \u201cit\u2019s the economy, stupid\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;If Trump can\u2019t show the \u2018V\u2019 velocity of economic growth by Labor Day, then he knows the family \u201cparty\u201d is over in the White House.&nbsp;&nbsp;The VIP\u2019s on Jared\u2019s list will lose their \u201cfree lunch\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;So people need to get their meat, and workers need to get to work, even if it\u2019s at the risk of their lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This doesn\u2019t impact the \u201cwhite collar\u201d workers, safely working from the couch at home.&nbsp;&nbsp;And this doesn\u2019t affect the old retired folks, many Trumpers, hiding away in their retirement homes.&nbsp;&nbsp;The government will find a way to \u201cfudge\u201d the statistics on deaths in nursing homes, so that we don\u2019t really see the contagion burning through our elderly.&nbsp;&nbsp;Oh, they died of pneumonia, or heart failure, or old age.&nbsp;&nbsp;COVID-19, well we didn\u2019t test for that, so we will never know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Excuses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, while we\u2019re fudging numbers, let\u2019s make sure that no one trusts the facts.&nbsp;&nbsp;Social media is absolutely stuffed with fake doctors saying fake things about COVID, and Trump sycophants re-tweeting all of that nonsense over and over again.&nbsp;&nbsp;What\u2019s the old advertising adage, if you hear something five times it\u2019s true?&nbsp;&nbsp;Trump\u2019s social media strategy will make sure we all hear the lies fifty times.&nbsp;&nbsp;It doesn\u2019t make it valid, but it does make it even more difficult for the real truth to be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guess what:&nbsp;&nbsp;China hid the fact they had a virus.&nbsp;&nbsp;They didn\u2019t tell the rest of the world that COVID-19 was burning through their population.&nbsp;&nbsp;They hoarded protective gear, and ventilators, and all the other stuff they needed, and didn\u2019t tell anyone.&nbsp;&nbsp;And they certainly have lied about the number of fatalities; it\u2019s hard to imagine that China had fewer deaths than New Jersey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That doesn\u2019t let Trump off the hook. US Intelligence warned ISRAEL (the nation) about COVID-19 in November 2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.i24news.tv\/en\/news\/israel\/1587059866-report-us-warned-israel-about-covid-19-in-november\">I25<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0You think they didn\u2019t tell their own President?\u00a0\u00a0But it didn\u2019t fit in with the Trump program, he was cutting a &#8220;great deal&#8221; with China at the time.\u00a0\u00a0Instead of preparing,  developing tests, tracking the virus, and keeping it out of the United States, Trump ignored the problem.\u00a0\u00a0Sure he was being impeached.\u00a0\u00a0I guess that the Democrat\u2019s fault, we knew he couldn\u2019t chew gum and walk, that we elected a President with a ten second attention span.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He let COVID in, and we\u2019re suffering for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strategy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the Trump campaign strategy for 2020 is no longer about Biden and the Ukraine.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not even about Make America Great Again.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s all summed up by Paul McCartney\u2019s song:\u00a0\u00a0let the corona-virus spread, as long as the Dow Jones goes back up again.\u00a0\u00a0The brokers will be fine \u2013 the \u201cessential workers\u201d and the elderly, well:  Live and Let Die.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paul McCartney and Wings \u2013\u00a0Live and Let Die Rant It\u2019s not often (at least, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s often) that I just go off on a rant.&nbsp;&nbsp;But this is the day, and this essay might be categorized in the \u201crant\u201d column.&nbsp;&nbsp;Take it for what it is, but it\u2019s happening.
