Trump\u2019s Core Belief<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. \u2013\u00a0Tweet<\/a> from President Donald Trump, 6\/17\/19<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the core belief of those that support Donald Trump.\u00a0He started from the very beginning, from the \u201cglide\u201d down the golden escalator in Trump Tower.\u00a0\u00a0Some of the first words Donald Trump spoke were about \u201cMexico\u201d sending immigrants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey\u2019re sending people that have lots of problems, and they\u2019re bringing those problems with us (sic). They\u2019re bringing drugs. They\u2019re bringing crime. They\u2019re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.\u201d Trump\u2019s announcement speech \u2013 6\/16\/15 – Time<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So it should be no surprise that in his 2020 campaign \u201cre-boot,\u201d he raises the specter of \u201cillegal immigrants\u201d once again. The fact that ICE is physically unable to round-up millions of undocumented immigrants isn\u2019t important.\u00a0\u00a0What is critical to the Trump Campaign, is that he can once again reach into the darkness and find the hate that powered him to the White House, regenerating that energy for 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump generates fear.\u00a0\u00a0Many Americans feel left behind by all of the social changes of the past fifty years.\u00a0\u00a0America has changed racially, socially, sexually: \u00a0Trump has summed all of this fear up in the phrase \u201cMake America Great Again.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0What it really means is to make America 1950\u2019s again, the era where whites were dominate; the\u00a0Leave it to Beaver\u00a0<\/em>world that didn\u2019t really exist, especially for minority Americans.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An axiom of propaganda is that there needs to be someone to blame. The Communist revolutionaries in Russia blamed the \u201cBolsheviks,\u201d the middle class that benefited from the Czarist government.  Hitler blamed the Jews, for the loss of World War I, for the economic depression of the late 1920\u2019s, for the \u201ccorruption\u201d of German youth by academia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the moment he came down the escalator, Trump has used undocumented migrants as his group to blame.\u00a0\u00a0He has called them Mexican rapists and murderers, even though most aren\u2019t Mexicans.\u00a0\u00a0It doesn\u2019t matter, they are \u201cbrown skinned\u201d and \u201clook like\u201d Mexicans.\u00a0\u00a0Trump blames them for illegal drugs, even though his own Customs Department states that the vast majority of illegal drugs come through legal crossings (16 tons of cocaine seized on a ship in the port of Philadelphia this week\u00a0CNN<\/a>.<\/em>)\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President presents a simplistic solution to the problem; build a Wall.\u00a0\u00a0It won\u2019t solve the drug problem, and it won\u2019t stop determined migrants.\u00a0\u00a0But it will cost $30 to $40 Billion to build, it is a physical \u201csymbol\u201d of Trump\u2019s hate, and it \u201csounds\u201d like it might work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump takes the very small minority of undocumented migrants who do belong to organized crime gangs like MS-13, and turns them into the threat he needs to scare his white suburban and rural base.  He feeds into the fear they feel, making them \u201cstay small\u201d and away from the urban areas where they might interact with \u201cbrown\u201d people.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And he blames Democrats: “They would strip Americans of their constitutional rights while flooding the country with illegal immigrants in the hopes it will expand their political base, and they’ll get votes someplace down the future. That’s what it’s about. And we are building the wall. We’re going to have over 400 miles of wall built by the end of next yea<\/em>r.” (Trump rally speech \u2013 Orlando, 6\/18\/19\u00a0Factbase<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has built camps, to hold the migrants he has ordered captured.\u00a0\u00a0We use all sorts of euphemisms from \u201cdetention facilities\u201d to \u201ctent cities,\u201d but they are what they are:\u00a0\u00a0concentration camps.\u00a0\u00a0(Note:\u00a0\u00a0there is a difference between concentration camps, used by the British in South Africa during the Boer War, the US with Americans of Japanese descent in World War II, and Hitler\u2019s Death Camps.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Just because they aren\u2019t starving and murdering folks, doesn\u2019t make it \u2018OK\u2019. (Esquire<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And he allows American officials to take children away from their parents.  It\u2019s happening still, and many of the children taken in the past have not been reunited with their parents.  The youngest was four months old (New York Times<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not about solving the problem at the border.  That solution is apparent:  deal with the crime and poverty in the \u201cNorthern Triangle\u201d of Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.  Folks are leaving there because they feel there is no choice; that it is worth the risk of all that can happen on the trip North.  Better that, than the certainty of poverty and violence that their homes offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that answer doesn\u2019t feed into Donald Trump\u2019s political needs.\u00a0\u00a0It doesn\u2019t raise money, fill stadiums, or excite voters.\u00a0\u00a0So he threatens millions of the undocumented, raising the vision of kids returning from school or daycare to empty homes, their parents incarcerated by ICE.\u00a0\u00a0Millions won\u2019t be \u201crounded up\u201d but some will, to serve as an \u201cexample.\u201d More outrages will be committed, all in the name of\u00a0\u00a0\u201cMAGA.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And all to serve a single purpose:\u00a0\u00a0win in 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
