Daily Caller 8\/27\/18 \u2013China Hacked Hillary Clinton\u2019s Email Private Server<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Daily Caller 7\/12\/18 \u2013 Gohmert:\u00a0 Watchdog Found Cinton Emails Were Sent to Foreign Entity<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

It was supposed to be the \u201chighlight\u201d of the conservative right attack on the FBI.\u00a0 Peter Strzok, the disgraced head of the FBI\u2019s investigation into the Clinton emails and of Trump and Russia, was publicly testifying in front of \u00a0a joint session of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees.<\/p>\n

It had a Freedom Caucus \u201call star\u201d cast:\u00a0 Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan, Sam Gohmert along with fellow travellers Trey Gowdy and Bob Goodlatte.\u00a0 They were poised to finally \u201cget\u201d the b\u00eate noire, the man who \u201clet Hillary go\u201d and went after the Trump campaign.\u00a0 Strzok was fatally flawed; he had an affair with a DOJ employee, they were both married to others, and they had a lot of the affair on government phones.\u00a0 There was a written record of their infidelity, and of their disdainful political opinions about Trump.<\/p>\n

For ten hours Strzok was grilled.\u00a0 Democrats on the committees gave him some respite, but Republicans came back at him again and again.\u00a0 However, this former top agent in counter-espionage responded clearly and definitively, even in the face of Congressman Sam Gohmert\u2019s personal attacks.\u00a0 Gohmert asked how Strzok could look in his wife\u2019s eye and lie about the affair.\u00a0 That encounter led Democrats to ask if Gohmert had forgotten to take his medication.<\/p>\n

The hearing was a letdown for the Freedom Caucus team.\u00a0 Strzok held his ground, and projected the aura of a competent intelligence officer.\u00a0The hearing itself became a circus, ultimately embarrassing both committees.<\/p>\n

But just before Gohmert\u2019s snide remark, he asked a question about a meeting Strozk had with Frank Rucker of the Intelligence Community Inspector General Office (ICIG) regarding an anomaly on the Clinton server.\u00a0 Gohmert claimed that the ICIG knew that over 30,000 Clinton emails were being copied to a different address (30,000 is a \u201cmagic\u201d number, the number of Clinton emails that were unavailable for FBI inspection.\u00a0 Trump famously asked the Russians to find them.)<\/p>\n

The Daily Caller, <\/em>Fox News Commentator Tucker Carlson\u2019s online \u201cnewspaper,\u201d picked up the story that day.\u00a0 Last week, Carlson himself repeated the charges on his Fox News show, and the Daily Caller <\/em>re-echoed the charges in a \u201cmore specific\u201d article.\u00a0 President Trump obviously watched Carlson, and repeated the story as \u201cfact\u201d in a series of tweets, claiming that all of Clinton\u2019s emails were copied to the Chinese.<\/p>\n

Since July 12th<\/sup>, there has been no independent confirmation of Gohmert\u2019s claim.\u00a0 But his words have entered the \u201cecho chamber\u201d of Trump-supporting media, and have been bouncing back and forth.\u00a0 Today in a brief Google Search, there are more than eleven different sources reporting the story that \u201cClinton emails were hacked by China.\u201d \u00a0Like the proverbial \u201cfly story\u201d where millions can\u2019t be wrong, each of these stories cite either Gohmert, or the original Daily Caller article from July 12th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

In fact, the only \u201cnew news\u201d regarding this story is a blanket FBI denial:\u00a0 \u201cThe FBI has not found any evidence the servers were compromised.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is a prime example of the \u201cecho chamber\u201d effect.\u00a0 What real evidence Gohmert had has not been revealed or may not exist, and besides, that\u2019s not the point.\u00a0 The Daily Caller <\/em>cites him and unnamed sources, and all of the other publications ran with the story.\u00a0 The President then elevates it to national prominence, and, voila, it is now \u201cfact.\u201d\u00a0 The \u201cmissing\u201d 30,000 Clinton emails are with the Chinese government, and the FBI investigators ignored the evidence. Trump cries: \u00a0\u201cStop the Mueller investigation, there is NO COLLUSION!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

In our current crazy world, truly all things are possible.\u00a0 But what evidence we have now on this story is the word of a Congressman, Sam Gohmert, who has proven he will say anything to get Trump \u201coff the hook.\u201d\u00a0It is interesting that even his \u201cbrother\u201d Freedom Caucus members, Jordan and Meadows, haven\u2019t taken up this fight.\u00a0But the story continues to bounce around the internet, and for the thirty-percent \u201calways-Trumpers\u201d the repetition alone will create a \u201cfact\u201d out of this fiction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
